Thank you all for your valuable help.
I have now set the injector to 110 bar...and it is now running...albeit a bit smokey!
My engine doesn't have a drive pulley...but both flywheels have v belt grooves machined in to their rims. I guess it was to drive a piece of machinery at a fast speed (I assume from the flywheel to a smaller pulley?). I know this is an impossible question....but I was wondering what sort of machinery it would have driven??? Any information would be gratefully received.

I've been told here in an English forum that mah711's were never supplied with v belt rimmed flywheels. Indeed, I haven't seen a picture of another 711 like mine on the internet with them. Mine do look like the original flywheels. The machining of the v belt grooves also look very well done ( so I assumed these were done at deutz... and supplied fitted to this engine). Can anybody out there let me know please?

Hello,
the Deutz MAH711 was built until 1970. Of course in recent years also with a bolted V-belt pulley.

Greetings Mathias

Yes, but grooves right in the flywheels are unusual. It may work if high RPM rating is required, but the belts will travel unnecessarily fast (meters per second) and use a lot of space. The power of a MAH 711 can be transmitted by a smaller pulley with better efficiency.
Many of these engines are found without the original shaft or pulley. Both are not very easy to replicate. My guess is, someone found a way to work around this challenge...

Yes, I don't know any grooves directly in the flywheel.

Many thanks for your replies. At least I know it's probably not a deutz factory spec now. I guess it was done at an engineering workshop as the modification looks as if it was originally made like that.

A good machinist might be able to cut the grooves with the wheels right in place, while the engine is running.
