Deutz MAH916 Injection Pump Shims

Does anyone know the required thickness of shims to set the injection pump timing for a MAH916? My engine had the shims come off in small pieces and a badly bent metal washer. Its the last thing to figure out before trying to start it.

I'm struggling to get this working. I have tried many different combinations of shims but the injector always seems to inject right at TDC.

I have tried with no shims, 2 shims, 8 shims and 16 shims. My shims are 0.25mm thick. I saw no change to the injection timing at all.

When trying to start the engine, I get a puff of black smoke out the exhaust and that is all. The engine doesn't want to run.

Make sure, that the Rockers make the changing between In and out Valve, when the Piston in OT stand.
This is the control of the right position of the Thootwheels.

No worries with your english! I can understand.

The camshaft is set correctly with the crank. The valves move at the right time.
The picture attached shows the bolt holes lined up with the engine as shown in the manual. Hopefully that's correct.

Black smoke is good...

For the first start the injection pump needs fuel in both lines, including the return line.
Fill the Pipe before start.

In last year Wolfgang told the correct adjust for injektion timing.

Ahh yess, naturally I forgot about my own thread. The engine had sat in the corner over winter waiting for some nice weather to try and get it running again. I hope to spend some time on it again this weekend.

I worked on this some more yesterday and with no shims behind the injection pump, the injector is delivering fuel about 12 degrees before top dead center. This should be enough for it to run.
Unfortunately, I am still getting puffs of black smoke out of the exhaust and it does not run. I think my next step is to verify the injector is at the correct pressure. Perhaps I could make a video of what the engine is doing right now and that might be helpful.
