Deutz mah711 age

Hello everyone.
Sorry my German is very very poor ( I rely on google translate). I have a deutz mah711 stationary engine which I am restoring. It is missing its serial number plate....but I have found a hand stamped number on the back of the crankcase casting 583591 and wonder if this is the serial number rather than a casting number. Can anyone help please?... I would love to know it's age.

The number on the crankcase is indeed the engine number. Yours was built 1938: http://www.maschinenmuseum.de/DEUTZ/DEUTZ_NR.HTM

Many thanks....that's brilliant thank you! (I have had no help in uk...and had virtually given up until finding this forum). Mine doesn't have a dipstick at all ( no provision on crankcase). Was this normal please?

The engine was available with different speed settings (different governor springs). 1500 rpm is the usual speed.

Yes, the manual says 2 litres (max. oil level, min. oil level is 0.8 litres less:
